In the new digital age, bodily autonomy is becoming less of a natural occurrence and more of something we have to fight for in a capitalistic society. I want to take a feministic approach to this and address the colonization of women's bodies specifically in the digital age of advertising and social media. Operating within a capitalistic society their are consumers and products. Women are systematically taught to be a product men consume and this was magnified through the social media landscape- women are further put under microscopes and their self-worth is measured by how they appear to the world- this creates a sense of double consciousness and loss of mental and bodily autonomy. With the bright, exciting, and feminine colors of a vaporwave/ neon aesthetic, I want to express these messages in a way that parodies techno-fetishization and our infatuation with the future.
